HOTELS IN TAIWAN
We know that finding good hotels in Taiwan can be a challenge, especially if you don’t speak Chinese or you aren’t within a major urban area.Yes, there are pages and pages of search engine results for hotels in Taiwan, but we urge you to take a closer look. You’ll find plenty of information there for big cities like Taipei, Hualien, and Khaohsiung, but you won’t find much information for places like Chiayi or Penghu. Trust us, we know. We’ve been down this road plenty of times.
We’ve created this page for several reasons: we want to share with you some of the places we’ve stayed at, both in and out of urban areas, and we want to provide information to travelers who are looking for lodgings that go out of their way to accomodate English-speaking guests. We’re not making money off these recommendations. We’re simply providing a list of some of the places we’ve stayed at over the years, especially in those hard-to-reach areas that are outside major urban areas.
We have been living in Taiwan for four years and much of our free time has been spent exploring this beautiful island we call home. You haven’t really lived in Taiwan unless you can say that you’ve been on a truly epic scooter/motorcycle/bike ride around the island. We’ve traveled through the heart of Taiwan along the Central Cross-Island and Southern Cross-Island Highways and felt the wind on our faces riding from coast to coast. We’ve pedaled through acres of verdant rice fields and hiked beautiful Taroko Gorge. Journeys like these mean that finding the perfect place to lay your weary head after a bone-jarring day of travel is essential to getting a good night’s sleep.
Our friends are constantly asking us for recommendations on hotels in Taiwan. One of the reasons we decided to start this web site is to let folks know that there are some truly great places to stay at all over this island. Don’t be discouraged by what you see or don’t see in the search engines. Most hotels/motels in Taiwan will list their accommodations in the Chinese search engines and might not bother with English search engines. Or, if they have listed their accommodations, they only offer the information in Chinese, which means you have to mess with translating the entire page before you can book your room.
We’ve also noticed that the information on accommodations like B&Bs, homestays, and small motels is usually quite poor and has very little to offer English-speaking guests. That doesn’t mean that these places aren’t great places to stay at. We’ve been pleasantly surprised on several occasions by the quality of care and comfort that we’ve received.
Our mission at Lay Your Head Here is to provide you with some truly great recommendations for hotels in Taiwan. We hope you like our choices and we’re here to help. If you’ve got questions, please feel free to use the contact form on the About page to get in touch.
This page is a work in progress. Check back often for more great deals on accommodations in Taiwan.
